Trey Kaufman-Renn: Purdue’s Next National POY Candidate

Trey Kaufman-Renn is firmly in the conversation for National Player of the Year heading into the 2025–26 season. The Purdue forward is coming off a breakout junior campaign in which he averaged 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while posting a highly efficient 61.2% true shooting percentage.

Kaufman-Renn was an offensive force for the Boilermakers, operating with the 19th highest usage rate in the nation. While some may argue his numbers are inflated by volume, his advanced metrics tell a different story — he ranked 15th in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) and 14th in Offensive Box Plus-Minus, proving he wasn’t just taking a lot of shots — he was producing elite results.

With Zach Edey gone, Kaufman-Renn has stepped confidently into the spotlight. Alongside returning point guard Braden Smith, he’ll anchor a Purdue team aiming to make another deep March run. Expect Kaufman-Renn to once again lead the team in scoring and help position the Boilermakers as a top-2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

If he can maintain his scoring volume and efficiency while continuing to impact the game on both ends, Trey Kaufman-Renn has a legitimate chance to bring National Player of the Year honors to West Lafayette.
